Disruption- Bringing Conversations and Interviews to Life

Disruption- Bringing Conversations and Interviews to Life

The clock’s hands tick, a gentle reminder about the upcoming interview. But I still double-check the time from smart-watch, just in case (force of habit). Hang on, there’s a WhatsApp notification from my friend. She’s asking for directions to the cute little café I’d posted about on Instagram. No worries; I open ‘Maps’ on my smartphone, and send her the route. I’ve still got time left on my hands, so I browse through my Facebook feed, comment on my cousin’s new profile pic, and wish “Happy Birthday!” to a couple of friends. The calendar on my smartphone beeps, reminding me that the interview was drawing near, but my mind is now onto a different train of thought.  All this communication & socializing happening, but remarkably, not a single word was spoken. Has communication finally evolved to that? No doubt socialization has evolved, but the question is not ‘how’, but rather ‘what’ all has changed with it. The looming interview seems like an interesting ‘what’; for an interview is nothing but the art of effective communication. It’s another platform for two sides to put their thoughts on the table; and it makes one wonder how far has the interview process travelled along the timeline, on the back of a socialization revolution: Putting Pen to Paper Sorry Orkut, but paper was the world’s first social-communication platform. From letters to loved ones, and telegrams for urgent business; came the concept of writing down CVs and mailing them. The newspaper further paved the way, allowing companies to advertise their products, and later, job-openings. And that’s how, Ladies & Gentlemen, the ‘Classifieds’ section was...
3 Body Language Acts That Can Break Your Game in a Video Interview!

3 Body Language Acts That Can Break Your Game in a Video Interview!

Your body language plays a huge role not just in your conventional interviews but also in your video interviewing process. To be honest, it can either make or break your game. And just in case if you’re wondering how? Allow me to break it down for you. During an online interview, even if you aren’t meeting the interviewer face-to-face, you are still going to see him/her online through a web-cam and unfortunately so can he/she. Hence, the interviewer can hold same amount of judgement on you for your body languages as that of a usual interview. So, it is always best to acknowledge and refrain from doing anything that can be remotely accounted as rude or unpleasant because our body language speaks volume about our professionalism. Here are 3 body language acts that can put you in bad light: Digital Handshake i.e., Nodding Mix a bit of slight shoulder bend, eye contact and a firm, professional nod and what you get out of it is a Digital Handshake. Welcome to the era of digitization! So, to get off on the right foot, it is important to nod as it will not just show that you are attentive and open to discussion but it will also show that you are a good listener and can appreciate other’s inputs too. Eye Contact The very first step to establish a good body language is by having a direct eye contact with the interviewer as it eases out the awkwardness. However, this doesn’t mean that you get all kinds of strange and start staring, it just implies that you put on your million-dollar smile...
3 Things to Keep in Mind While Video Interviewing!

3 Things to Keep in Mind While Video Interviewing!

Job interviews could be quite stressful and it gets even harder if you are meeting your hiring manager via a webcam that too for the first time ever. But with the current industry trend more and more employers and also candidates are inclined towards the video interview platforms like Monjin, as they are faster, easier and more economical than the other conventional interviewing methods. Video interviews are user-friendly and convenient but my friend, they are no child’s play as well. At times, these interviews could get as tricky as understanding “Why Aamir Khan cries at every movie premiere!” However, here we are going to break down things for you to have a better understanding on such interviews. Double, Triple Check Your Audio and Video We understand you would have put in good amount of money on your headphones/ webcam and that it worked perfectly fine a year ago but it necessarily need not mean that it will work well even today. So, make sure to check the Jack well because the iPhone 7 might not have one but your laptop does. Don’t let your background break you down During a video interview, make sure that you do all the talking and not your walls. It is always good to either go with a solid plain wall or something more business-like. Also, this would be the best time to hide those Bob Marley and Mrs. Leone Weber posters (if you know what we mean) and embrace a few with quotes from Mr. Steve Jobs or Jordan Belfort. Better lighting can light up your future Lighting plays a very important role...
Things You Do That Might Cost You A Job!

Things You Do That Might Cost You A Job!

Got an interview? Saying yes? Perfect! So, you must be all prepped up. Am guessing you would have prepared a list of things to be said and mentioned at the interview. But, have you worked on the things that shouldn’t be mentioned? Well, if you haven’t then my friend you could be in some serious trouble. Preparing for things that shouldn’t be talked about is equally important to crack an interview. And, to simplify the process for you, below is a compilation of things that you must stay clear from, always. Getting too comfortable during the interview? Don’t. I repeat, don’t! Getting into a comfort zone during an interview is a good thing but only to a certain extent. An interview is called ‘INTERVIEW’ for a reason. Every question being asked during the process is a test to validate you and it’s important that you understand it. So, next time you are asked “How are you?” at an interview. Always reply- “Target oriented. Thank you.” Backbiting your ex-boss? No! Never during an interview. No matter how awesome it sounds and how good it makes you feel but don’t do it! I know it could be hard but it is crucial that you practice the ART OF CONTROL here. I understand that your previous boss could be ‘Dave Harken’ right out of Horrible Bosses but it is never a good idea to bad mouth anybody especially during an interview. Nervous? Confine the feeling right away. Even if you are more nervous than you have ever been in your life, don’t show it. Nobody want to hire a candidate who lacks confidence....
Know the Right Reasons to Choose Video Interviews!

Know the Right Reasons to Choose Video Interviews!

Got an interview? Saying yes? Perfect! So, how’s the drill going to be? Taking a day off from work. Getting up at 6 am for a 9 am interview. Rushing to get ready with a last minute prep up, only if the time allows. Then heading out in the sun and pollution to your interview venue by driving your car all the way, which could be tiring and annoying considering the traffic or may be taking a cab ride, which at most times is not so good for your pocket. This is the usual interview routine that we all have gone through at some point or the other. Isn’t it! But, what if things could be easier. What if giving an interview could be as easy as video calling your friend. Sounds so tempting. Right? Well, this is not a far off dream my friend. With the fast evolving industry trends, more and more organizations are inclining towards online video interview for jobs and in turn on platforms like Monjin, as they are faster, easier and more economical when compared to the conventional interview practices. Also, an online video interview is not just a great option for the employers but they are equally amazing for the candidates too. And here’s how: Bye-Bye Traffic! Now, no getting stuck in traffic for hours and no pollution too. Give your ride and the hassles that comes along with it a little break. Never Hurry! No more chasing the time. You will have all the time in the world to prepare and present well with online video interviews. Going Out for an Interview....

Dynamic Object – Reading properties of an object in C#

It is often required to read properties of an Object, such as while logging, reading generic objects, etc. Most of the times, we end up creating specific types to deal with such a situation. Here, in this post, we’ll see how can we read/iterate the properties of an object and their values. To start with, let’s consider a situation, where all the properties of an object are to be returned as string along with their values. Let’s say the object is, var obj = new { FirstName = "John", LastName = "Smith", Email = "john.smith@abc.com", Website = "", TimeStamp = DateTime. Now, Id = Guid.NewGuid(), IntNumber = 1234, DoubleNumeber = Double.Epsilon }; We will create an Extension method which will convert this object to a dictionary of Key Value pairs of “string” and “object”. public static class DynamicExtension { public static dynamic ToDynamic(this Object obj) { IDictionary<string, object> expando = new ExpandoObject(); foreach (PropertyDescriptor property in TypeDescriptor.GetProperties(obj.GetType())) expando.Add(property.Name, property.GetValue(obj)); return expando as ExpandoObject; } } Now, all we need to do is make the Object “dynamic” by calling its new extension method “ToDynamic()”, and iterate the Key Value pairs. So, the final piece would look like: static void Main(string[] args) { var obj = new { FirstName = "John", LastName = "Smith", Email = "john.smith@abc.com", Website = "", TimeStamp = DateTime. Now, Id = Guid.NewGuid(), IntNumber = 1234, DoubleNumeber = Double.Epsilon }; var sb = new StringBuilder(); foreach (KeyValuePair<string, object> item in obj.ToDynamic()) sb.AppendLine(item.Key + ": " + item.Value); Console.WriteLine(sb.ToString()); Console.Read(); } The result: And, we are done! P.S.: This works with .NET 4.0 and...
